Terms of publication

Open access, author copyright, peer review charges, licensing, language and independent preservation.

Publication model: Continuous publication. Each article carries an article number.
Review: Manuscripts selected for peer review are reviewed within 4 weeks by a qualified specialist from outside the editorial team.
Access: Open access. Full text is available from publication.
Charges: Submission is free. CHF 450 is charged when the editors send a manuscript out for peer review and covers editorial handling through publication. Reading is free.
Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. Authors keep copyright.
Preservation: Every article is deposited with Zenodo, operated by CERN.
Language: Published in English, with German reading versions when available. The English text is the version of record. Manuscripts are accepted in English or German.

Editorial team

Editorial decisions are taken by named people within their subject competence.

Policies

The journal follows the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, issued by COPE, DOAJ, OASPA and WAME.

Publication ethics: Fabrication, falsification and plagiarism end a submission and, after publication, lead to a retraction that remains visible. Allegations are put to the authors before any decision is taken, and the editors record what was decided and why.
Conflicts of interest: Authors declare funding and relevant interests. An editor with an interest in a submission takes no part in the decision on it.
Corrections and retractions: Every change to a published article is itself published. Corrections appear alongside the original, and a retracted article stays retrievable, marked and citable as part of the record.
Complaints: Complaints about an editorial decision or about conduct go to the editors and receive a written answer. Complaints concerning the editor-in-chief go to the publisher.
Data and materials: Where a result depends on data or code, the article states where these can be found and under what terms.
Generative tools: Authorship rests with the people who answer for the work. Where generative tools were used substantively, the article says so, and the named authors remain responsible for every claim in it.
